THE Information Department yesterday organised a community visit programme at the Welfare Home Complex in Kampung Belimbing, which is under the Department of Community Development (JAPEM), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
The 50 participants, comprising Information Department officers and members of the Village Consultative Council (MPK) of Kg Berakas ‘A’ and ‘B’ as well as Muslimah ‘Jame Asr’, were led by Information Department officer, Awg Hj Dayang bin Hj Kassim.
Among the programme’s objectives were to inspire and encourage the community while at the same time giving them same exposure through the dissemination of know-ledge and information on how to enhance quality of life and how to deal with problems of abuse involving related agencies.
The participants were also briefed by Assistant Acting Director (Protection and Rehabilitation Section) Pg Mahadi Pg bin Hj Salleh on the Welfare Home Complex’s roles and responsibilities.
He said that according to statistics, there are currently 26 residents undergoing protection and rehabilitation and that the complex aims to rehabilitate those who have been involved in negative social activities, to give victims of domestic violence and family problems temporary shelter, as well as to engage youths in task-oriented learning and skill developments.
Other programmes implemented at the welfare home include motivational programmes, academic, class, counseling, religious and moral education, sports and recreation.
