A NATIONWIDE cleaning campaign took place yesterday at more than 100 mosques, suraus and prayer halls throughout the country’s four districts to enliven the New Year 1436 Hijrah celebration. Religious talks and tree planting were also held to mark the special occasion.
One of the mosques where the clean-up was held is Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Silver Jubilee Mosque in Kampong Jangsak where the event was launched by the guest of honour, Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman, the Minister of Religious Affairs.
The day began with mass Subuh prayer, which was followed by a religious talk on the significance of the Hijrah New Year celebration.
The clean-up also took place at the Mohamed Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Serusop where the event was launched by the guest of honour, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs.
The campaign highlighted the roles of mosques as centres for community activities in addition to being places for worshipping Allah the Almighty.
In the Belait District, Zainab Mosque in Lumut was the focus of the New Year 1436 Hijrah celebration.
The guest of honour at the event was Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The event started with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa, followed by a Tazkirah (reminder), which highlighted the importance of the cleanliness of mosques based on Islamic teachings.
