The clash of the titans between Brunei’s veteran giants XN FT and Al Idrus headlines the third round of the VFA FA Cup after the conclusion of the draw at the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) House yesterday.
The two clubs look set to reopen a new chapter in their rivalry in late March with Al Idrus perhaps taking a slight mental edge following their Sumbangsih Cup success over their fierce rivals earlier this season.
The Veteran Football Association (VFA) organising committee invited team managers who had emerged victorious in the second round of the FA Cup to determine their opponents for a place in the quarterfinals.
Awang Haji Roslin bin Haji Suhailee, the VFA President said in his opening remarks that more than 40 games had been completed in both the DST National Football Veteran President’s Cup and VFA FA Cup competitions.
The FA Cup draw also coincided with a special briefing with regards to the scheduling of matches where pitch availability became top of the agenda.
Furthermore, teams who are competing at one of the venues have been advised to start early since closing hours are at 6pm.
Riwayat FC will meet Stoneville FC in the third round while BSRC Vet will play PSJD in another tough battle for both sides.
I Team will play Jerudong FC while Astavilla take on Besa FC in the last-16 clash.
BSRC Recon and Mix FT could play in the final third-round VFA FA Cup fixture.
Setia Bakti will meet the winner of the Pondok 12 and RB FC Vet tie while a meeting with M.O.D awaits for the winner of the Kasuka and MBS United.
XN FT humbled Oldstock FC 7-0 while defending champions Al Idrus halted IKLS FC’s progress in the second round with a 2-0 victory.
The third round VFA FA Cup fixtures will be played on March 20 and 22.
