THREE officers from Japan Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR), Singapore yesterday made a visit to Kampong Kapok Consultative Council and Kampong Sungai Matan Consultative Council. The delegation was led by Iwai Masaya, Senior Deputy Director, CLAIR Singapore, Shimomura Hideki, Deputy Director and Gueh Yuyuan, Researcher from Japan CLAIR Singapore. They are in the country for three days from October 28 to gain more knowledge about the local authority administration system in the country.
The officers visited the village consultative councils to take a closer look at the ‘One Village, One Product’ programme. The programme is an initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs launched several years ago to upgrade village products in order to further enhance the villages’ dynamic life, unity, competitive progress and harmony.
The officers visited the residence of Awg Haji Marali bin Haji Ahmad, Village Head of Kampong Kapok in Mukim Serasa, where they were briefed on the village’s economic project that is making banana crackers. The project is run by the Women Bureau and Economic Bureau as well as the village youth. The delegation also took the opportunity to witness an exhibition of the village’s products. Kampong Kapok Consultative Council recently won the Silver Award for the 3rd National Level Village Excellent Award 2014.
The delegation then paid a visit to the residence of Pengiran Haji Abd Rahman bin Pengiran Haji Zainal, Village Head of Kampong Sungai Matan.
Among the village’s projects and activities implemented to empower its economy include fishing challenge, Matan Carnival, eco-tourism and home-stay service.
