IN HONOURING the legacy of the late Pehin Datu Temanggong Dato Paduka Awang Lim Teck Hoo, who was a passionate advocate for promoting Chinese language education in the community, his family through Lim Teck Hoo Holdings continued the tradition of presenting donations to Chinese schools nationwide as well as the Brunei-Chinese Chess Association, yesterday.
Eight Chinese schools and the chess association benefited from $52,000 worth of contributions that were presented by Dato Paduka Lim Beng Thai.
Chung Hwa Middle School (BSB) received $20,000, while Chung Ching Middle School (Seria) and Chung Hua Middle School (KB) received $10,000 each. Chung Hwa School (Labi), Chung Lian School (Seria), Chung Hwa School (Tutong), Chung Hwa School (Kiudang) and Pei Yuek School (Temburong) each received $2,000 each. The Brunei-Chinese Chess Association also received $2,000.
Chairman of Tutong’s Chung Hwa School, Soon Seng Lee, in representing the recipients of the contribution presented a speech to pay gratitude to the family of the late Pehin Datu Temanggong Dato Paduka Awang Lim Teck Hoo.
Recalling the late advocate’s effort to further promote and develop Chinese education, he said “The late Pehin Datu Temanggong Dato Paduka Awang Lim Teck Hoo is a respected figure in the Chinese community as not only a successful businessman but also an advocate of Chinese education. He has been on the board of directors for Chung Hwa Middle School for more than 10 years and frequently contributed to the development of the school and Chinese education.”
Song Seng Lee also cited an incident in the 1970s where Chinese schools in Brunei faced a crisis that Pehin Datu Temanggong Dato Paduka Awang Lim Teck Hoo was able to help overcome.
With this donation, he said, “It is hoped that the schools will further upgrade themselves and move forward for the future generation”.
