AS A nature lover, the outgoing Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, Zheng Xianglin, during his three years’ tenure in the country has visited the pristine forests of Temburong about 10 times and always climbed to the top of the canopy walk to enjoy the beauty of Brunei’s forests.
The ambassador will greatly miss the country’s vast pristine forests when he returns to China in two weeks’ time after completing his tenure in the Sultanate.
In his brief remarks at a farewell reception held yesterday at the Orchid Garden Hotel, the ambassador also highlighted other sweet memories – the Hari Raya ‘Open House’ tradition and the Chinese New Year when people gather for good food and company.
He added that he hopes to introduce the ‘Open House’ tradition when he is China.
Before concluding his speech, the ambassador also expressed his confidence that the bilateral relationship between Brunei and China will continue to grow and further benefit the people of the two countries.
Present at the reception yesterday were Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Hj Hazair bin Hj Abdullah, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, and Datin Paduka Hjh Adina binti Othman, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Also in attendance were Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohammad bin Hj Daud, Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Dr Awg Hj Ahmad bin Hj Jumat and other government officials.
