THIRTEEN members from the Brunei Darussalam Karatedo Federation (BRUKAF) were presented with certificates after attending national coaching and referee course organised by the federation, held at the Indoor Stadium of the National Sports Complex in Berakas yesterday
Five BRUKAF members – Hjh Noorul Sulastrie binti Hj Sabtu, Sujimah binti Mejari, Hjh Siti Susilawati binti Hj Mohd Zaini, Azlina binti Hj Abas and Ali Ruwaidi binti Hj Harun – who received Judge B accreditation in 2009 are now upgraded to Judge A (Kata) and Referee B (Kumite).
Eight BRUKAF members – Md FAzil Rewandie bin Mohd Faisal, Masdiana binti Hj Tengah, Md Azmain bin Abdullah, Md Shukri bin Hj Masri, Sabrina Wong, Dr Mamdoh Ahmed Elnemr, Ratinah binti Hj Sanif and Ali Hassan bin Bidin – are now accredited as coaches.
The coaching course and referee upgrading were conducted by Secretary-General of BRUKAF, Sensei Hj Syed Jefferydean Hj Syed Mohammad who is also the Chairman for the South East Asia Karatedo Federation’s (SEAKF) Coaching Committee and also an Asian Karatedo Federation’s (AKF) certified referee.
Mariam binti Ulat, Head Officer of Sports Unit at the Youth and Sports Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports presented the certificates to the participants.
Senior Officer of Youth and Sports, Nur Iffah Natasha Sofea Abdullah, executive and senior members of BRUKAF also attended the ceremony.
Shihan Hj Malai Mohamed bin Hj Malai Othman, Vice-President of BRUKAF and also the Chairman of the Technical Committee commented to the Borneo Bulletin that this is one of the development plans by the Brunei Darussalam Karatedo Federation.
“Not only we try our best to produce medallists in this sport, but we also produce certified coaches and referees.”
“These referees will be used for the upcoming Brunei Darussalam National Games (SKBD) and we will not stop there but produce more excellent referees in preparation for the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur and 2019 SEA Games in Brunei Darussalam.”
“The certified coaches will be able to produce potential athletes not only for the districts for our National Games but also to represent our country in regional and international games.”
“These are our strategic plans for the future of karate in Brunei and it is our aim to cooperate and coordinate with the Youth and Sports Training Unit to produce a winning karatedo team.”
