AS A school holiday activity, Freshco Brunei organised a successful Pasta Making and Sushi Making Class at their atrium and Banquet Hall.
Around 90 kids from Chung Ching Middle School (CCMS) in Seria were taught how to cut their own ingredients, practice proper hygiene and learn techniques on how to correctly knead their own pasta.
The children wore special chef’s hat and aprons to make the event feel like a real cooking environment.
The organisers provided electronic stoves and real cooking utensils.
Pastamania (one of the organisers) provided them with an imported safety knife that will not harm nor hurt any participant in case of an accident.
The knife is made of plastic material that can cut soft vegetables and soft processed meats.
The participants were also taught how to create and roll their own sushi and maki by the chefs and staff of Sushi Tei Brunei.
They were given ingredients such as cucumber, avocado, kani or crabsticks, sushi rice, nori and ebiko – the basic ingredients for the famous Japanese roll called “California Maki”.
The children then enjoyed their pasta and maki creations. The registration fee for the cooking class was $15 per child. The fee also covered a plate of pasta, maki and a cup of juice.
All participants were given special caps and aprons and also a certificate and voucher from Pastamania and Sushi Tei Brunei.
“This is something we love to do, making children learn and at the same time enjoy,” said one of the representatives from Freshco. Some of the activities offered at Freshco are sushi making class, pasta or pizza making class and pretzel making class. All these are open for groups, individuals or school tours.
