A 23-YEAR-OLD local man who was detained over a string of car thefts across the country will face sentencing today.
A Suzuki Swift, Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Cruze, Kia Cerato Koup, Toyota Prado, Toyota Echo, Proton Satria Neo and Nissan Pathfinder are some of the stolen cars that have successfully been recovered by the police.
The vehicles were stolen between March and December last year.
Following investigations by the House Break-In and Vehicle Theft Unit of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), RBPF, he targeted cars that were left unlocked with their engines running in public. It was discovered that he had modify the colour, licence plate and body shape of the stolen vehicles to avoid detection.
He was initially apprehended at the end of October last year and was released on bail. He was again caught for committing a similar felony last month.
Further investigations revealed that he was involved in a number of house-thefts between September and October last year.
The police said they are aware of public concern surrounding reports of car thefts circulating in the social media recently.
The police reminded members of the public to remain vigilant and to ensure that their vehicles, whether parked in public or their residence, are securely locked and not to leave any valuable items inside.
