SEVERAL local businessmen representing the Chinese community last night hosted a dinner for the outgoing Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, Zheng Xianglin, and his wife, at a restaurant in the capital.
In his brief remark during the farewell dinner, the ambassador shared some of his memories during his three year tenure in the country, including his participation in Hari Raya open house celebrations and Chinese New Year, in which the local community gathers to enjoy good food and company. He said that he hopes to introduce the local open house tradition to his peers and friends once he has returned to China.
The ambassador also said that he will miss the vast pristine forests that cover the country and added that he thoroughly enjoyed the natural beauty of the Temburong District, which he said he visited almost a dozen times for canopy walks in order to enjoy the spectacular view.
Prior to the end of the dinner, the ambassador received souvenirs from the Chinese business community, an act they said was aimed at expressing their appreciation and friendship with the returning envoy.
