Bus swept by flood in Thailand, two bodies found

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Thailand (Bernama) – Two bodies were recovered after a bus was swept by a torrent of water and overturned into the roadside ditch in Nakhon Si Thammarat last Tuesday night, Thai News Agency reported.

The bodies were found, 300 metres away from the bus and rescue operation was difficult due to raging water before the two bodies of the bus passengers could be retrieved.

Fifty people trapped in the bus were safely rescued.

The ill-fated charter bus was hired from Surat Thani to carry passengers to a funeral in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Tha Sala district. On the way back in Sichon district, heavy rain and forest run-off flowed through the road and made the bus lose its balance and fall into the ditch.

A portion of route 401, connecting Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani in Thasala district remains under water and is impassable.
