I RECENTLY gave a lift to an elderly man possibly in his mid 70s walking using a cane along Jln Pandan 5, Kuala Belait.
Curious, I asked where he lived and where he was heading to. He lives at ‘Perumahan Rakyat Jati’ Mumong and everyday he has to walk all the way to a bus stop near the Seaview Hotel at Jln Maulana to catch a bus to Seria.
I realised he had to walk towards the Teko roundabout, across the Jln Singa Menteri dual lane, the junction at Jln Sungai Pandan and Jln Maulana to get there and again on the way back home.
I estimated he’d take more than an hour at his slow pace and ran the risk of being run over just to get there.
He lamented about the absence of a bus service on the Mumong-Singa Menteri road.
This would have helped many residents along that road.
I’m writing to highlight this poor old man’s predicament and of many others living in the Mumong area who desperately need a reliable bus service – a basic daily need to get from one point to the other.
There are rapid developments near Mumong and the need for this service is more likely to increase too.
I saw the old man walking by the road side again and it reminded me to write this ‘plea’ on his behalf.
I hope the authorities would respond and reveal their plans.
If not, can this be included in their plans as I’m baffled how that stretch of road with numerous housing schemes has no bus service.
