BURGER King continues to spread its wings in Brunei Darussalam with Sinofood Express, the franchisee of Burger King in Brunei, yesterday officially opening its second branch in the country at the revamped Brunei International Airport (BIA).
The fast-food chain is expected to launch its third branch in Kuala Belait by end of this year.
The launching ceremony of the BIA branch of Burger King was officiated by US Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Daniel Shields in the presence of Hajah Airah binti Hj Abdullah, Director of Transport under Ministry of Communications, and President of Burger King Asia Pacific Pte Ltd Elias Diaz Sese.
“We have a very good partnership here in Brunei and we have seen very good results at our first branch. We believe that there is a good opportunity to further build more branches here in Brunei,” Elias Diaz Sese said in a press conference.
Talking about the first Burger King branch in Brunei, he said that it is getting a “very positive” response. “We have opened so many markets in the last few years; we have opened Burger King in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Timor Leste, Vietnam and Cambodia. If I compare Brunei with the other mentioned countries, Brunei is definitely on the top.”
Besides creating employment for locals, he revealed that the company is working towards developing a local supply network for chicken and beef to improve the supply chain for Burger King Brunei.
“This would also increase local employment and quality standards of local suppliers,” he added.
When asked how many branches would Burger King open in Brunei, Elias Diaz Sese mentioned that the Sultanate can sustain 15-20 restaurants, however, he stressed on the importance of maintaining the quality of food and services.
Speaking at the event, US envoy Daniel Shields said, “It’s really thrilling to see the commitment of Burger King to Brunei’s market.
“As the US Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, I am interested in promoting economic ties between both countries. When Burger King opens in Brunei, it creates jobs and opportunities for people in Brunei as well as in the US.
“I am really happy to see Burger King expanding in Brunei and I think Burger King is a great American as well as a global brand.”
In conjunction with the opening of the second outlet, Burger King@Brunei is also launching its latest product, the Rock It Fries, which comes with Spicy Honey and Piquante Spice.
