BRUNEI Shell Petroleum (BSP) Company Sdn Bhd held a Khatam Al-Quran 85’ closing ceremony at the company’s headquarters in Panaga Seria yesterday to commemorate 85 years of Shell in Brunei.
The closing ceremony of the nine-month programme was graced by guest of honour Pehin Datu Singamenteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, the Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office. Also present at the event was Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as senior BSP officials and staff members.
Awang Hj Salleh-Bostaman bin Zainal Abidin, the Deputy Managing Director of BSP, in his welcoming speech, said, “The Khatam Al-Quran 85’ is a programme to encourage BSP staff to pray for Allah the Almighty’s mercy and protection in congregation, to achieve long-term safety in handling operations as part of BSP’s important role in contributing to the nation’s economy in oil and gas for the past 85 years.”
“This event is also to support the aspirations of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Government towards creating a ‘Zikir Nation’, he added.”
A total of 280 onshore and offshore staff members registered for the programme, with the Champion 7 group completing the recitation 40 times, while Ampa 9 and Fairley 4 did 19 and 3 times respectively.
Meanwhile, as a part of the 85th year celebrations, Brunei Shell Joint Ventures will be conducting a coastal cleaning campaign at three different locations today; the Billionth Barrel Monument in Seria, Lumut Beach and Jerudong Beach.
