A TOTAL cash prize of $45,600 is up for grabs for the top winners in the various categories of the upcoming BSB International Marathon to be held on Nov 16.
Details of the registration for the first of its kind full competition organised by Brunei Athletics Association were revealed at a press conference yesterday.
The categories for the competition are 42km Full-Marathon Men’s Open (18 years and above), 42km Full-Marathon Women’s Open (18 years and above), 21km Half-Marathon Men’s Open (16 years and above), 21km Half-Marathon Women’s Open (16 years and above), 10km Men’s Open (14 years and above) for Asean and Brunei residents, 10km Women’s Open (14 years and above) for Asean and Brunei residents, 10km Men’s Veteran Open (14 years and above) for Brunei residents, 5km Men’s Open (12 years and above) for Brunei residents, 5km Women’s Open (12 years and above) for Brunei residents, 5km school boys – Brunei residents (8 to 14 years), 5km school girls – Brunei residents (8 to 14 years) and 3km Fun Run and Walk.
Registration fee for locals and Brunei residents for the 42km Full-Marathon is $90 and $120 for overseas runners, 21km half marathon ($45 for locals and Brunei residents and $70 for overseas runners), 10km run ($35 for locals and residents and $60 for foreign runners).
The cash prizes for the top three winners of the full-marathon for foreign runners are $3,500 for first place, second ($2,250) and third ($1,200). Bruneian runners who finish in the top three places will walk away with cash prize of $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $700 for third place.
In the 21km run, the winners of overseas runners in first place will get $2,000 while second place will get $1,250 and $600 for third place. For Bruneian top three finishers in the 21km will walk away with $1,500 for first place, second place ($700) and third place ($500).
There are also cash prizes for all the competitive categories except for the 3km Fun Run.
The aim of the marathon is to bring the international runners, local runners and local communities together in a celebration of sport and to lead a healthy life. More than 4,000 participants are expected to take part in the first-ever BSB International Marathon.
Registration will be online at www.baamarathon.com from today onwards and will be closed on Oct 10. There are four steps of online registration. Participants need to sign up with validation code then an email will be sent to their respective accounts to activate the registration.
Payment will be offline and can be made at all Standard Chartered Bank branches via CDM and counter service for cheque deposit. The registration output form and banking slip will need to be submitted to Pusat Belia, Orchid Garden Hotel, Aquatic Centre of Tutong or Mumong Sports Complex.
The press conference was chaired by Roslan Manap with Pg Hj Khairil Pg DP Hj Damit, Mohd Syarqawi Hj Idris, Siti Adia binti Tawang and Raja Segaran also in attendance.
