BRUNEI Darussalam stumbled to a 2-0 defeat against Timor Leste in their first match of the 2014 AFF Futsal Championship at the Melawati Stadium, Shah Alam in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Timor Leste were gifted with an own goal in the 31st minute after Ak Muhammad Naqib Pg Timbang inadvertently turned the ball into his own net during a quick raid by the Timor Leste’s players, as reported by aseanfootball.org.
Brunei Darussalam bravely fought back but was made to pay for missed chances as Timor Leste sharpened the blade with a second through Fernando Baptista Xavier in the 39th minute.
Meanwhile, Vietnam sent a signal of intent to the rest of the title contenders after thrashing Myanmar 6-1 in Group B.
Vietnam’s five-goal blitz in a span of five minutes reduced Myanmar to pieces and despite scoring a consolation, the latter ended on the wrong end of a 6-1 rout.
