SIX Bruneian students won two gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals at the 6th Asean+3 Teacher Workshop and Student Camp for the Gifted in Science, in Changwon, Republic of Korea, recently.
According to a press release, the camp, which was held from January 11 to 18, was also attended by representatives from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, China, Taiwan and the Republic of Korea.
This camp was aimed at sharpening the students’ research abilities and improving creativity in the field of Science and Technology.
The students – Ibrahim bin Hj Mohd Yussop from Saint Andrew’s School, Lim Ian Wei and Aisyah Farhana binti Singpa @ Abdul Majid from Maktab Sains, Pengiran Nur’ Azeezah binti Pengiran Anak Hj Mohd Al-Mokhtar from Sekolah Menengah Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Muhammad Afif Ruzaini bin Muhammad Sofian from Sekolah Menengah Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha and Yura Mohammed Adibillah bin Saifulrizal from Jerudong International School – were escorted by Cikgu Huzaimi bin Haji Abdul Kassim from the Sports School and Cikgu Adlina Rahayu binti Haji Zaini, from Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hasan.
During the camp, all the participants were placed into 10 mixed-nation teams, where they were expected to create innovative ideas and solutions related to Green Smart Homes and present them in front of a panel of judges.
The camp also included field trips to Korean research facilities and science parks, as well as a trip to an amusement park and snow sledding hills.
The teachers also attended various lectures and workshops on teaching methods and skills for the gifted in Science, which focus on developing 21st Century skills such as critical thinking, communication skills as well as research skills.
