BRUNEI students yesterday returned from the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) in Sochi, Russia, full of enthusiasm after coming in 9th (out of 36 countries) in the Senior High Open Category with their ‘Robotlifter’ project.
The group – led by Satinah binti Hj Abang, Education Officer at the Science, Techno-logy and Environment Partnership Centre, supervising teachers Ronny bin Puasa from Sungai Tali Primary School and Radzuan bin Hj Chuchu from Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School – comprised students Nor Muthiah binti Esa, Izzah Haziqah binti Hj Chuchu, Ummul Nur Su’aidah binti Sufarin, Naimatul Basirah binti Hj Aliuddin and Nur Amni Amanina binti Hj Narudin.
The students expressed their excitement to the Borneo Bulletin after taking part in WRO for the first time.
“We feel very grateful that we were able to go… We were all so excited and nervous at the same time,” said Nor Muthiah.
“This is the first time that Brunei has managed to get into the top ten.”
Meanwhile, Naimatul Basirah revealed that she wishes to continue pursuing robotics in years to come.
