BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Bernama) – About 10,000 Proton Iriz cars have been registered in Malaysia since its launch in September last year, Proton Edar Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Norzahid Mohd Zahudi said.
Proton Edar is the distributing arm of the car manufacturer.
Norzahid said Proton has received an average of 150 bookings per day for the compact car driven by demand for the 1.6-litre automatic variant.
“The 1.6-litre automatic is the biggest contributor to Iriz sales, about 45 per cent currently, but the sales of 1.3-litre automatic variant is picking up,” he told reporters during the Proton Iriz Media Drive Borneo here today.
He said Proton aimed to sell 4,000 Iriz per month this year.
Norzahid said initially, only two variants of Iriz – 1.3-litre manual and 1.6-litre automatic – were produced. Norzahid said buyers usually adopted the wait-and-see approach until Iriz was commonly seen on the road before they were confident to buy the car.
He said Proton has also not been concentrating on the compact segment for a while and for the carmaker to capture the market would take some time.
