THE softball event at the Brunei Darussalam National Games (SKBD) will start from Nov 30 to Dec 5, a day before the closing ceremony of the multi- sport competition. All matches will be played at the Sungai Assam Sports Complex.
This was revealed by the Secretary-General of the Brunei Amateur Softball Baseball Association (BASBA) Major (Rtd) Wan Mohammad Tambrin bin Haji Suhaili during a managers’ meeting at the Theatrette of the Sports Gallery, Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas yesterday.
The men’s event will be held from Nov 30 to Dec 2 while the women’s event will be staged from Dec 3-5.
Participation is eligible to all holders of Identity Card (IC) in Brunei Darussalam whether he or she is a permanent resident or a resident who is working in the country. Professional players from overseas are not allowed unless they have a valid IC.
Twenty matches will be completed over six days of competition. In the women event, first round matches will be played up to 5 innings while second rounds will be played up to 7 innings. Other common rules will apply including the necessary use of a tie-break.
Shall the teams cannot be separated with the same number of points, they will be counted on total runs against and total runs for. Head- to-head play ruling will not apply.
If a team fails to show up, the other team will be awarded a walkover and will collect two points and 7 runs. The winner of a scheduled game will collect three points.
Twenty medals will be up for grabs for the winning teams reserved for 17 players, 1 manager and 2 coaches.
Players are also advised to wear moderate attire for the entire competition. The Secretary-General noted that International Softball Federation (ISF) states that each player must bring two kits which are home and away for every match.
