THE Brunei River once again became the centre of attention as the Traditional Boat Race 2015 kicked off in style yesterday morning.
The categories contested included the District Boat Race for 10, 15 and 20 men; the Invited and Mukim Boat Race for 10, 15, 20 and 25 men; the Private Company Boat Race for 15 and 20 men; Padian Boat Race for two and three rollers from one family; and the 25-men Open Marathon Boat Race.
The Traditional Boat Race started at Kg Ujong Tamoi Village while the Marathon Boat Race started at Kuala Sungai Kedayan. Both races concluded at the Sungai Damuan. Meanwhile, the Speed Boat Race took place at Sungai Damuan.
The chief guest for the morning session was Datin Paduka Hjh Adina binti Othman, Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, who also presented the trophies to the winners.
Brunei-Muara District won the 15-men District Boat Race, while Mukim Kilanas won the 15-men Mukim Boat Race, and Mukim Kota Batu won the three-roller Padian Boat Race of the family category.
Meanwhile, the DST team was announced the winner of 15-men Private Company Boat Race and the prize presentation was held later in the afternoon.
The 25-men marathon was held later in the afternoon where the chief guest was Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awang Othman, Minister of Home Affairs.
Organised by the Mukim Kota Batu Consultative Council (MPM Kota Batu) in collaboration with the Brunei-Muara District Office, the festival will take place at the Dermaga Diraja.
