TALKS on exploring cooperation particularly in the fields of community, family, women and children were discussed yesterday between Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair bin Hj Abdullah and Malaysian Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Dato’ Sri Rohani binti Abd Karim.
The discussions were held during a courtesy call made on Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair bin Hj Abdullah by Dato’ Sri Rohani binti Abd Karim, which was held at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Brunei and Malaysia have established cordial ties in various fields, including community, family, women and children through regional and international organisations.
These cooperation ties are implemented through meetings, including the Asean Ministerial Meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (AMRDPE), Asean Ministerial Meeting on Welfare and Social Development (AMSWD), Asean Ministerial Meeting on Women (AMMW), Asean Disability Forum (ADF) and Asean Socio-Cultural Community (ASSC).
Cooperation ties were also established beyond the Asean region, such as the East Asian Ministerial Forum on Families (EAMFF) and East Asia Gender Equality Meeting, while other cooperation established were through the United Nations (UN) and Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC).
At the same time, various collaboration projects through Asean were implemented under the framework of sectorial body such as Senior Official Meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (SOMRDPE), Senior Official Meeting on Welfare and Development (SOMSWD), Asean Women Council (AWC), Asean Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Right of Women and Children (ACWC) with the Department of Community Development (JAPEM) as the focal point in the matter.
With regard to humanitarian aid, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports through its Department of Community Development (JAPEM) has set up the ‘Tabung Kemanusiaan Bencana Banjir’ to assist victims of the recent floods in Malaysia. The fund raising campaign runs until April 9, 2015.
Also present at the courtesy call were Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman, Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Datuk Awg Sahak bin Awg Salleh and Secretary General at the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development Dato’ Seri Sabariah Hassan.
Following the courtesy call, the delegation proceeded to a briefing that saw Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Paduka Awg Hj Mohd Hamid bin Hj Mohd Jaafar delivering a presentation on the ministry, and JAPEM Acting Director Hjh Noridah binti Abd Hamid presenting on JAPEM. Dato Sri Rohani also presented a briefing on the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.
The day later saw the Malaysian delegates touring several departments at the ministry.
