BRUNEI Darussalam opened their 17th Incheon Asian Games in a dispiriting note after losing both of their preliminaries in the men’s doubles sepak takraw against Myanmar and Indonesia at the Bucheon Gymnasium yesterday.
The national team was narrowly defeated by Myanmar 2-1 after forcing the tie into a rubber-set. Brunei Darussalam lost the first set 21-18 and their hopes revitalised with a 23-21 win in the second set but Myanmar took down the decider 21-17 to seal the win.
Brunei Darussalam did not have much luck in the second game after Indonesia beat them in straight sets (21-11, 21-16). Brunei Darussalam have one more game to play in this event against Laos today (Sept 21).
The top two teams from the two groups will cross alternate for a shot at the gold medal on Monday.
The nations with a podium finish will be paraded in a victory ceremony in the conclusion of the men’s doubles event on Monday afternoon.
Brunei Darussalam will resume their sepak takraw campaign in the Regu event against India on Sept 29.
