FOLLOWING a successful two years of leadership, Jackson Ting has been re-elected for a second term (2015-2016) as the president of the Brunei Fuzhou Shiyyi Association.
Dr Andy Lau Sie Chuong has also been re-elected as the deputy president to further boost the capability of the association.
The four vice-presidents who will also play a vital part in the association are Ting Tiaw Khing, Tang Kee Sing, Wong Ngi Ming and Ting Sie Kiong.
Among the new office bearers are Luke Lau Kong Chiong as honorary secretary (Chinese), Jessica Lee as honorary secretary (English/ Malay), Amy Wong Leh Hee as the honorary assistant secretary, Ting Ing Ngie as the honorary treasurer, Ting See Hung as head of youth league, Hwong Siew Nyee as head of women’s league.
The swearing in ceremony was witnessed by Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs. The installation ceremony was held at The Centrepoint Hotel in Gadong.
Jackson Ting in his speech recalled the formation of the association in 2012, “Brunei Fuzhou Shiyyi Association was officially registered on August 1, 2012. President of World Federation of Fuzhou Association, Tan Sri Dato Liu Xian Wei, arrived in Brunei on August 8 to assist in the setting up of the association at Phongmun Restaurant. After the annual general meeting held on October 13, the first steering committee was formed. Following that, the first installation ceremony was held on November 10.
“We have the youngest team with an average age of less than 50. We worked fast and six months later we started to expand our committee in the organisation, made amendments to the constitution, set up the women’s group and youth group as support wings.”
In terms of relationship with the government, he said, “We have fostered a good relationship with the Brunei Government, we are active in promoting social welfare activities and have participated in the country’s major festivals such as His Majesty’s Birthday celebration and many more.”
