BRUNEI fencer Md Yunos bin Hj Hamid played out a hard-fought final in the Men’s Sabre event to overcome compatriot Hardiwan Shah bin Rahim 15-8 in the 2015 Brunei International Open Fencing Championship yesterday.
In the semifinals, Md Yunos defeated Adam Nicolas Lindbichler from Malaysia 15-12 while Hardiwan Shah beat Haziq Asahrin from Brunei 15-11.
Third place was shared by Adam Nicolas and Haziq Asahrin.
In the female foil final, It was a Myanmar affair as Phyu Phyu Aung defeated May Thinzar Kyaw 15-11 to take the title.
Third place was shared by Aye Chan Htet Naing from Myanmar and Maizarah Mahusin from Brunei.
The guest-of-honour Hj Ismawi bin Dato Paduka Hj Kifli, Assistant General Manager of DST Group presented the prizes to the winners. Also present was Hj Zainoren bin Hj Mohd Yusof, the President of Brunei Darussalam Fencing Federation.
Besides Brunei fencers, the competition also attracted fencers from Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand.
