BRUNEI Darussalam fell to a second defeat at the hands of Chinese Taipei 56-33 in their third game of the Mission Foods 9th Asian Netball Championships at the Singapore Sports Hub OCBC Arena yesterday.
The national team face the dreaded test against Sri Lanka in the battle of third place next in Group B but a win would almost be a certainty to retain their sixth place status from their previous Asian championships.
Nurul Ain and Masriatol were the scorers for Brunei Darussalam in the defeat.
With two points apiece, Chinese Taipei also gained a superior goal average percentage of 83.01 percent while Brunei Darussalam were reduced three percent to 64.67 percent in the search of equalling their feat.
Twenty four hours after the Chinese Taipei game, Brunei Darussalam will try to push one more time against a favoured Sri Lankan side that went all the way except winning the title in the last edition.
With results that could be of great interest in the performances of the Southeast Asian teams, Sri Lanka demolished Myanmar in the early afternoon game 109-11 while Hong Kong hammered Vietnam 80-17. Japan endured a disappointing third loss to India 60-52 despite coming close.
If Malaysia beat Myanmar and India beat Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam’s position of securing third place among the Asean ranked nations would be significantly boosted.
