BRUNEI Darussalam will host Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank’s (IDB) Group Day on September 17 in Bandar Seri Begawan, a press statement said.
The event, to be held at The Empire Hotel and Country Club, is organised in collaboration with the Brunei’s Ministry of Finance, the Center for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM) and the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), the research and training arm of the IDB.
Minister of Finance II at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awg Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Haji Ibrahim, will be the guest of honour at the event. The minister is expected to engage with stakeholders from the country’s private and public sectors including government entities, investment authorities, the Central Bank, financial institutions, local banks and academia.
The programme will focus on a wide array of topics such as strategic framework for IDB Group, resource mobilisation and Islamic economics as well as the latest socio-economic development status in Southeast Asia.
The programme will also include a lecture on “Islamic Finance and Economic Development: Lessons Learnt”, which will be delivered by the IDB prize laureate in Islamic Banking and Finance in 2014, Professor Rodney Wilson.
The IDB Group regularly organises similar events in its 56 member countries to enhance awareness on its activities and operations and advance cooperation with the local and regional private and public sector entities and investors. IDB Group President, Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali, will lead a senior delegation to the event. The group is committed to supporting development efforts of the Brunei government which joined the bank in 1986, an IDB press statement said.
