YASMINE was officially screened at the first-ever Brunei Cultural Evening 2014 in Canada, at the Shenkman Arts Centre in Ottawa recently.
Present at the event were officials of Canadian government, members of business groups, general public and representatives of the Brunei Darussalam High Commission in Canada.
Cultural exchange is the best way to strengthen ties between any two nations, and Yasmine Director Siti Kamaluddin’s passion in documenting Bruneian content to the world is perfectly depicted in Yasmine.
During her speech, Siti remarked that Yasmine is the renaissance of Brunei cinema and the first international feature film from Brunei in the modern era. Siti said, “I would like to thank the Brunei Darussalam High Commission and its team at our mission in Canada for inviting me here tonight. I am truly honoured to partake in such a remarkable event and be able to show Brunei to the community here in Canada. Let’s celebrate Brunei film making together. Let us celebrate Yasmine together.”
Other Brunei companies represented at the event were Brunei Halal, Brunei Tourism, Royal Brunei Airlines, Royal Brunei Technical Services, CAE-Brunei MPTC, Brunei Economic Development Board and Simpor Pharm.
Also present at the event was the producer of Yasmine, Khairuddin Kamaluddin.
After the Cultural Evening, Siti Kamaluddin and Khairuddin Kamaluddin will be heading to Honolulu, Hawaii to attend the Hawaii International Film Festival 2014 where they will also visit several schools.
