AHMAD Taufiq bin Murni and Lim Wei Kok will be representing Brunei in the Grandmaster of Pool Championship at Corporate Tower Subang Square Section 15 in Subang Jaya, Malaysia.
The pair will be accompanied by national coach Lim Tat Hwe in the regional tournament which looks set to attract promising players from neighbouring countries.
National coach Lim said the tournament, which will be held from Jan 21 to 25, will serve as a platform for continuous development to the players.
Lim hoped that the players can adopt with the environment and do not lose ground on their game that they gained during the competition. It provides them the exposure to accommodate the players of maintaining the level and condition of their game or even see areas that acknowledges improvement.
“It is better for the players to play continuously rather than not playing for three or four months,” Lim said during the players’ final preparations in Brunei before they board for Kuala Lumpur today.
The tournament’s method will be slightly different than a standard pool competition with the first rack played in a 9-ball game, the second rack played in a 10-ball game and the third rack played in an 8-ball game. This trend continues before a winner is decided when a player reaches the winning frame.
The group stage will be played on a double elimination format in a race to 7 frames. The knock-out rounds will be played in a race to 9 frames.
The team is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Brunei Darussalam Cue Sports Association.
