THE Brunei Darussalam contingent attended a flag-raising ceremony at the 2nd Asian Para Games Sports Village in Incheon, Korea yesterday. The ceremony was also attended by delegations from Bahrain, Japan and Qatar. The head of the Brunei Darussalam contingent, Awang Mohd Nasrullah El-Hakiem bin Hj Awang Mohammad exchanged souvenirs with the guest-of-honour Hwang Yeon Dae, the Mayor of the Asian Para Games Village. A TOTAL of 23 readers from all four districts participated in the finals of the Al-Quran memorisation and interpretation competition yesterday, for mukim and village consultative councils and mosque takmir committees.
The religious event was held at the Tutong Civic Centre Complex, to mark the 70th birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The competition was divided into six categories. In Category ‘A’ for boys, the winner was Ahmad Huzaifah bin Haji Awang Hasbi from the Brunei-Muara District, followed by Muhammad Nur Rahim bin Abdul Sufian from Belait in second place, and Ibni Zahra’ Hijriyah bin Haji Zaini from Tutong in third place.
