BRUNEI Darussalam collected a total of three gold, eight silver and three bronze medals in four days of competition at the BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games currently taking place in Labuan.
The three gold medals came from athletics where Adenin Abdulah and Maziah Mahusin were able to shine under the spotlight.
Adenin’s two gold medals came from javelin and discus events while Maziah’s only gold medal came from the female 400m where she crossed the finish line with a time of 59.20s.
In addition to the gold medal, Maziah also collected a silver medal from the 200m with a time of 26.27s and also helped the women’s 4x400m team (Dk Ummi Ramizah, Leong Shi Yee, Fatin Farah Nabilah, Maziah) to claim silver medal with a time of 52.20s.
The male 4x100m race saw Brunei’s team of Rachmat, Faizul, Sharmin and Abd Rahim laid claim to the silver medal with a time of 43.36s while Dayang Norhidayatullah Johari took silver in the 100m hitting the time of 12.79s.
Abdul Rahim in the male 100m dash ran his way to the silver medal after finishing with a time of 10.97s. Sharmin Nain in the long jump has to settle for bronze after leaping to a distance of 6.13m.
The remaining medals came from pencak silat where in the Regu Putra category, Md Ar Syafaiq with Md Afiq Aiman and Md Umar Ghazali collected a silver for Brunei after scoring 434 points. In the Tunggal Putri event, Anizah Najihah collected a silver medal for Brunei when she scored 448 points, just four points behind the gold medallist.
In the Regu Putri, Qiatina Athirah with Nur Syafiqah and Nurhamizah scored 443 points to bag a bronze medal for Brunei.
In the Ganda Putra held yesterday, Md Ar Syafaiq, Md Afiq Aiman and Md Umar Ghazali claimed a bronze medal for the country.
Meanwhile in football, Brunei lost a heartbreak semifinal match against Papua 3-2.
