BRUNEI Darussalam Sports School Council will be sending a contingent to participate in the 6th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) School Games 2014 from Nov 29 to Dec 7 in Marikina City, Philippines.
The Asean Schools Games is an annual sport competition among students from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and the Philippines.
Brunei Darussalam will participate in six sports namely athletics, sepak-takraw, swimming, badminton, golf and wushu.
Other sports being contested are track & field, basketball, badminton, gymnastics, table-tennis and volleyball.
The game is a popular annual sports tourna-ment that aims to enhance friendship among students in all the Southeast Asian countries. The game also aims to promote solidarity among the youths through sports and provide an opportunity for school athletes to engage in productivity cultural exchange.
The Brunei team were briefed recently by coordinator officer, Haji Eady Sardi, senior education officer cum chief secretariat of Sports Schools at the Co-Curriculum Department, Ministry of Education.
Brunei Darussalam Sports School Council had participated in the Asean Schools Games since it was introduced in 2009. In 2013 Brunei won 10 medals (two silvers and eight bronzes), 2009 (two bronzes), 2010 (one bronze), 2012 (six silvers and eight bronzes).
