THE Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) is ready for the 11th Brunei International Small Arms Meet (BISAM 11), which opens on January 20 at the Binturan Range, Penanjong Garrison, Tutong.
Finishing touches were put into place as the Commander of the RBAF, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, and other officials conducted an inspection yesterday morning following a final rehearsal at the Binturan Range.
The rehearsal involved participation from the State Adat Istiadat Department alongside members of the media.
Planning for the competition started in 2014, with rehearsals beginning earlier this year to ensure that the highly-anticipated event, which requires a great deal of coordination, is executed smoothly.
BISAM was incepted in 1985 with six countries and since then, the number of participating nations has increased. This year’s edition of the competition will see 18 military contingents representing 17 countries comprising all 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, including host country Brunei Darussalam, as well as the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, China, Pakistan and Oman.
Brunei’s armed forces will field 82 skilled marksmen to represent the Sultanate in two separate teams: Brunei Darussalam ‘A’ and Brunei Darussalam ‘B’.
This year’s theme is ‘Solidarity and Unity as Catalyst for Excellence,’ which signifies the importance of friendship, cooperation and mutual respect among the countries’ militaries.
