THE five-day-long Breast Cancer Awareness campaign came to a close yesterday with the PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) receiving a donation of B$7000 for their breast cancer research fund which came from the sales of the campaign T-shirts.
The campaign was jointly organised by Laneige Brunei Darussalam and the Health Promotion Centre (HPC) Ministry of Health and The Brunei Cancer Centre.
On hand to present the mock cheque to the guest of honour, Dean of IHS UBD, Dr Hjh Maslina binti Hj Mohsin was Laneige General Manager Pat Li.
The event also saw a Healthy Snack Contest prepared and presented by Maktab Teknik Sultan Saiful Rijal (MTSSR) students with support from health officers and nutritionist of HPC, head chef from Royal Brunei Catering and food bloggers Thanis Lim and Rano Adidas.
The contestants were asked to create two healthy snacks (one savoury and one sweet) and a healthy drink within 20 minutes. This was the first national large-scale healthy food preparation competition opened to the public.
And the fun part was the “have-a-go” being carried out by five groups comprising campaign committee members who were required to prepare one healthy snack.
The competition raised awareness to the public on staying healthy with delicious dishes.
The guest of honour, Dr Hjh Maslina, Pat Li, health officers from HPC, doctors from PAPRSB IHS, coaches at ADN Mixed Martial Art Academy, fitness instructors from Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) Fitness Centre and volunteers took part in the contest.
Meanwhile, the Kids T-Shirt Painting Contest was carried out on October 17-18 and was opened to primary school students.
There was a Pink Message Board where the public was given the opportunity to post positive messages for the cancer fighters, survivors and their family to show their support.
The organisers extended their appreciation to the public for the overwhelming support and response.
On top of that, they also acknowledged the support of PAPRSB IHS, UBD, the groups of generous supporters and volunteers for the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2014. The campaign is also in line with the Ministry of Health’s Vision 2035, “Together Towards A Healthy Nation” as well as the aspirations of Laneige’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The theme of the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2014 is “Your Health is in your Hands” and the organisers had specially created a platform at the event to encourage youth to participate in the activities during the campaign in order to plant positive seeds of the fact that breast cancer can be prevented at an early stage and to be brave to talk about it.
