FOUR shops at a shopping complex in Gadong were broken into on Thursday night.
One of the shop owners stated that the robbery took place on Thursday night, but only found out yesterday morning when one of the employees noticed that some money and items were missing.
According to the shop owner, the thief damaged the door and stole about $400 from the cash register as well as a bag. The shop owner explained that robberies happen more often whenever there are expos being held at the shopping complex.
Another shop also was broken into the same night. However, the thief left empty handed as all the money was with the shop owner at the time. The shop owner said that upon entering the shop that morning, the chairs and materials on the table were in disarray and the cash register was open.
Another victim of the robberies, whose shop was also broken into, explained that the thief stole one CCTV receiver, several watches and jewellery.
The final shop was broken into. The door was damaged, but nothing was stolen.
The shop owners are requesting the relevant authorities of the shopping complex to install more CCTV units in strategic locations to reduce the occurrence of robberies. In addition, security must frequently patrol the area to ensure the safety and peace at the shopping complex.
When contacted for confirmation, a spokesman of the Royal Brunei Police Force stated that investigations are still underway.
