SAO PAULO (AP) – Brazilian sprinter Vanda Gomes has been provisionally suspended after failing a doping test in September.
The Brazilian Athletics Federation said in a statement Monday that Gomes tested positive for the banned hormone anastrozole in an out-of-competition test on Sept 25.
The federation said Gomes was notified on Nov 11 and did not request that her “B” sample be tested. The provisional suspension began on Friday and a local sports tribunal will analyse the case.
Gomes was in Brazil’s team that made it to the 4x100m relay final at the 2013 world championships in Moscow. Gomes was going to run the final leg but was not able to hold on to the baton, costing Brazil a chance to win a medal.
