TUARAN (Bernama) – The Borneo Ant House, the first and only underground gallery of its kind in Malaysia will be a new tourist attraction in Sabah when it opens its doors to visitors on July 1.
The ant house gallery located in Kampung Kindu, Tuaran-Tenghilan Highway, about 41 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu City was launched by Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun yesterday.
Borneo Ant House executive director Sufiah Abd Rahim Lee said the concept and idea of the theme park was developed by her husband Tarmizi Sandhu several years ago after he saw its potential as a tourism product.
Sufiah, who is a retired teacher, said family members got together to start on the RM700,000 project on the 1.2-hectare site in 2015.
“The gallery and theme park were finally completed after two years. Apart from creating a place where visitors can enjoy quality time with their families, the Borneo Ant House has also provided employment opportunities for the locals here,” she told reporters after the launch.
Earlier in his speech, Masidi in commending Sufiah’s family on their courage and efforts in investing on the tourism product, said the project has a promising future as the state is a tourist destination.
