BOOKSTORES in the country are now busy preparing back-to-school sales for 2015. Parents armed with lists provided by teachers for children are heading to bookstores to purchase assigned textbooks and other essentials.
Some are seen purchasing school bags, shoes and school uniforms.
For some parents whose children have just entered secondary school, they will have to spend more especially on other essentials such as calculators, watercolours and so on. Many parents start purchasing textbooks early to avoid book shortages.
“We don’t want to buy at the last minute to avoid large crowds and some items might be out of stock,” said Hajah Saidah Haji Piut from Kg Lambak Kiri. “My third child will be in Form Two (Year 8) this year and I have to purchase his school needs. I need to buy his shoes as well,” she added.
Some of the bookstores have asked parents to fill in a membership application form to get a membership card which offers special discounts on certain items such as electronic gadgets and computers.
During this time almost all bookstores selling back-to-school items throughout the country are crowded with parents and students and this will last until the end of January, said a bookstore staff in Gadong yesterday.
He urged parents to give priority to their children’s school needs and purchase early to avoid the stress of shopping last minute. Beside textbooks, bookstores also sell 2015 calendars, handbooks and many more.
