A LOCAL man has appeared in court to face four charges related to the discovery of a woman’s body under concrete at a house compound last year.
Haji Harith bin Haji Bakir, aged 49, was charged with failing to report the sudden death of 40-year-old Voon Su Ching whose body was found at the house compound in Kampong Salambigar, Jalan Muara.
The defendant was also accused of depositing the woman’s body at the house compound.
The defendant was also charged with misappropriating the deceased’s property – a wallet containing Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore currencies amounting to nearly BND8,000, a gold locket and a $40 Easi card.
The defendant was also accused of obstructing a police officer on February 16, 2013 during his investigation into the disappearance of Voon Su Ching, who was reported missing on February 14, 2013, by concealing her body under stones and cement at the house compound.
No plea was taken from the defendant.
Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil PD Ustaz Hj Badaruddin ordered the defendant’s release on $5,000 bail or two local sureties and fixed the case for further mention tomorrow.
DPP Danial Kifrawi appeared for the Public Prosecutor.
