SOME 30 participants comprising traditional boat racing enthusiasts in the country attended a three-day course on “Introducing Boat Race Sports Coaching Course 2014” at the Coaching and Sports Development Unit at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas yesterday.
The three-day course from Sept 26-28 was organised by Brunei Darussalam National Boat Race Association (Perkebar) in collaboration with the Sports Coaching Unit of the Youth and Sports Department.
The course was conducted by national coach from Youth and Sports Department, Awg Haji Syahid Nuryasin and the practical part of the course was held at the Serasa Muara Water Sports Complex.
Awg Kifli bin Japar, Head of Coaching and Sport Development Unit, Youth and Sports Department spoke on the “role and responsibility of coach and introduction of TID programme” while national coach, Awg Haji Syahid Nuryasin spoke on the “objective of training and boat race strength conditioning”.
The aim of the course is to introduce and demonstrate paddling coaching techniques and racing tactics while at the same time train the participant’s mental and physical attributes. It is also to help new potential local coaches who may be appointed to represent the country in regional or international level competitions.
Also delivering a talk was President of Perkebar, Awg Haji Haris bin Haji Ibrahim entitled “History and progress of boat race since the 70’s”.
Participants will also receive certificate of participation at the end of the course today.
