DAMIT Worley Parsons Engineering Sdn Bhd yesterday held its first ever blood donation drive in collaboration with the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital’s Blood Donation Unit, which was also participated by the Managing Director of Damit Worley Parsons Engineering, Haji Mohd Nasar bin Hj Momin (pic).
Najmuddin bin Haji Tarif, one of three Graduate Mechanical Engineers who organised the drive, told the Weekend Bulletin that the activity was part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme that had a target of at least 40 blood donors.
“We wish to cooperate with the Blood Donation Unit to organise blood drives such as this more often as it is one of the best ways we can give back to the society,” he said.
When asked about future plans, the 26-year-old engineer revealed that they might organise a tree-planting activity in the future with the Forestry Department.
Belait has an adequate blood supply thanks to blood donation drives organised by private companies in the district.
This was mentioned by Norasna Haji Zaindi, a lab assistant from the Blood Donation Unit, who informed that for the months of March and April, the unit has already been fully booked by private companies.
She said that in terms of walk-in donors, they usually receive an average of around 300 pints per month. One person donates 450ml of blood which will give three important parts – plasma, platelets and packed cells (red blood), that will be used accordingly with the different needs of patients.
Yesterday’s drive saw some 45 people coming to donate blood.
