ONE hundred and eighteen people participated in the second blood donation campaign held yesterday, which was organised by the Brunei Methanol Company Sdn Bhd (BMC) in collaboration with the Laboratory Services at Suri Seri Begawan Hospital for the Mukim Liang community at the Pusat Insani of Seria.
Blood donors comprised employees from BMC, contractors, officers from the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Brunei Land Forces and British Forces Brunei, officials from the Fire and Rescue Department and officers from the Seria and Sungai Liang police stations, students and teachers and as well as the Mukim Liang-Lumut community members.
In a welcoming speech, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of BMC, Daud bin Hj Jais, talked about the company’s objective to encourage public to donate blood and to inculcate ‘duty to care’ to the National Blood Bank. “Blood which is donated can be used for various purposes. It can save a person’s life who suffered critical injuries, can assist patients who have to undergo surgical treatments or used to replenish contaminated blood in the system.”
In 2013, BMC successfully collected 90 pints of blood that were donated to Suri Seri Begawan Hospital, Kuala Belait from the first blood donation campaign.
