THE Biosecurity Division, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, yesterday held a Biosecurity Public Awareness Talk at the multipurpose hall, Bumiputra Complex in Bangar Town, Temburong District.
The event was one of the division’s programmes to raise public awareness on the importance and need to comply by regulations on the import and export activities of agricultural commodities. It also stressed the importance of understanding sanitary and phytosanitary issues.
Activities related to the import and export of forestry commodities were also touched on by the Forestry Department, while CITES-listed commodities were highlighted by the Wildlife Division and improvement on imported product quality and safety through proper packaging by the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood.
The talk highlighted the approach in managing biosecurity risks to protect human health, economy and environment as well as local agricultural and fishery industries from pests and diseases.
The event saw the attendance of entrepreneurs from the agricultural and fishery industries as well as government departments in Temburong District.
