AN ATTEMPT to smuggle 100 cartons of cigarettes into the country on a motorcycle was stopped by the police on September 25, 2014.
According to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), a 48-year-old man was seen carrying two large boxes on his motorcycle and attempted to flee when police approached him. The man was stopped at Simpang 1978, Kg Junjungan 2, about 500 metres from the border.
On September 27, at Simpang 1878, Kg Junjungan 2, police on patrol saw a 58-year-old man carrying a ‘tekiding’ (traditional carrying basket) on a bicycle through a ‘mouse trail’ from the neighbouring country. The man was found carrying 25 cartons of cigarettes.
The RBPF thanked the public for the tip-off and urged members of the public not to get involved in any kind of smuggling activity. The public was also urged to report any suspicious incident to the police hotline 993.
