Syamra bin Haji Zaini struck twice to rescue a point for Besa FC in a 2-2 draw against Rimba Star FC in the DST Premier League at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
Syamra gave Besa the breakthrough in the 25th minute but the lead lasted for 13 minutes when Md Khalil bin Haji Ahmad Kamil drew his side level.
Ahmad Hafiz bin Said made it 2-1 to the Rimba-based team but Syamra immediately brought the game back to square one less than 60 seconds later.
Besa whipped in a teasing cross which a team-mate failed to connect before Pengiran Haji Mohd Zulkanin bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad drilled his shot wide.
Rimba’s excellent passing move nearly culminated in Md Khalil rounding off the Besa’s goalkeeper.
The referee was outstanding in the middle correctly getting a key decision when Besa’s Abdul Azim bin Haji Safri was dispossessed within fair means in the penalty area.
Rimba thought they have scored when Mohd Abdul Azim bin Said elected to strike his effort in the bottom corner but the keeper dived in to make a smart save.
An unmarked Rimba’s captain Ahmad Hafiz bin Said should have at least hit the target when he guided his header wide from a corner.
It was all Rimba in the closing stages as Md Qamarulluddin bin Abdul Rahim’s mesmerising run which was deserving of any winner took a deflection off a Besa’s player.
Kota Rangers have the chance to go three points clear at the top of the DST Premier League with a win over Setia Perdana at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex tonight.
