NFABD ‘B’ will not be joining the senior players in the next round of the DST FA Cup after falling to a 2-1 defeat to Besa FC at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last night.
Faizul Jefry Hj Zaini’s early goal set the tone for Besa FC and Md Norhafiz Hj Abd Wahab gave them a finer advantage. Md Suhaily Syafiee Abdullah Mazrani handed NFABD ‘B’ a reprieve but could not force extra time.
Meanwhile, on another note, the goals keep on flooding in Brunei’s latest domestic cup competition after Rainbow FC became the fourth team to score nine goals or more in this year’s DST FA Cup on Friday.
Rainbow followed in the footsteps of FC Phosphor, NFABD U17 and Menglait FC, the latter of whom could be a dark horse against the league sides.
However this time their opponents Sporting Family Team were not outclassed and should instead held their head high for partaking in a cup classic and potentially the most entertaining cup of the round.
Rainbow and Sporting were in fact tied 6-all after Md Faizul Hj Yusof’s dramatic equaliser in the 91st minute forced extra time.
A total of 34 goals in two cup matches is unheard of which is poised for an interesting contest as the non- league and league teams merged for the first time.
Rainbow scored three more goals in extra time to win 9-6 and progress into the next round but the exhibition of goals is an advertisement of the Brunei’s local football scene.
Tough times lie ahead of Rainbow against fancied league teams but the collection of goals can perhaps set the path for creating shocks and surprises.
