LOCAL basketball team Beruang Blazers acquired American import player Jarron Crump to face the sharp-shooting Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) basketball team tonight in a friendly game at the Brunei Basketball Association Basketball Court in Batu Bersurat.
Crump’s acquisition will act as an additional power to the squad boasting the best basketball players in the country. Beruang Blazers General Manager Wira Pori assured Crump’s addition will help.
“Buy the ticket to the game. It will be good entertainment for the crowd,” he said during a practice session yesterday.
The friendly match is aimed to raise funds for Society for the Management of Autism Related Issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei and Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s (UBD) Alumni Endowment Fund.
On Wednesday night, Sungkyunkwan University basketball team demonstrated their firepower by dismantling the UBD basketball team 118-61.
From the match, Wira Pori commented, “We can see their capability and as expected, they play fast pace basketball with impressive shooting skills.
“We will try our best to be at our best and provide a good match for the crowd.”
Captained by Benjamin Sim, Beruang Blazers include Md Zainul Ashyraf bin Haji Hussin, Choo Yung Jian, Ahmad Termizi bin Haji Noordeen, Alvin Goh Wei Ming, Francis Panique Barcellano, Han Ming Kwong, Soon Kian Leong, Mak Chia Wee and Jake Chong Kah Hou.
Lim Kok Shien will act as the stand-in coach for Beruang Blazers.
Asked on the new import, the coach said, “We felt his performance was beyond expectation during the Dato Jimmy Poh Cup 2017 last December, and we are happy to have him here with us again.”
Wira Pori encouraged local basketball fans to support the team and also help raise funds. The game will start at 7pm.
