BERLIN (Xinhua) – Berlin Fashion Week took place this week with more than 50 designers showcasing designs for the coming autumn and winter in front of Berlin’s landmark Brandenburg gate.
The biannual fashion event, hosted by Mercedes-Benz, attracted 3,000 brands and 200,000 people including buyers, industry professionals, and numerous fashion enthusiasts to the German capital.
British designer Charlotte Ronson opened Berlin Fashion Week 2015 with her spring/summer collection, which used light colours like mint green and baby blue, as well as daisy prints and loose sleeveless blouses to create a fresh summer style.
Ivan Mandzukic, a German designer of high-class menswear, presented his brand Ivanman in draping clothing design with menswear suits and winter coats by applying bright colors against dark winter colours on stage.
However, the menswear of newcomer Sasa Kovacevic with the Berlin label Sadak is anything but classic. In his new autumn/winter collection, he mixed New York street culture and oriental notes by applying only black, white and orange with bold, expressive brushstrokes.
While 11 designers will make their debut at Berlin’s fashion week, established designers such as the Lena Hoschek, Dorothee Schumacher, and Guido Maria Kretschmer also showed their new collections on the runway in front of the Brandenburg gate.
According to Berlin’s economy senator Cornelia Yzer, 10 exhibitions and 70 fashion shows will take place across the city in four days. During this time, the event was expected to bring in around 120 million euros (about 139 million US dollars).
