BELTA (Brunei English Language Teachers’ Association) closed its 5th International Conference 2014 yesterday with the 2014 Annual General Meeting, the election of the new Executive Committee for the term 2014/2016 and the wrap-up of the three-day Conference.
Datin Hjh Khadijah binti Hj Akbar, the 2012-2014 President, chaired the meeting and election. Abd Wafi Sia bin Abdullah Sia and Hjh Mariah Hj Ahmad did the reports of the association’s 2014 activities and financial matters, respectively.
Following the meeting was the election for the Executive Committee for the terms 2014-2016. Datin Hjh Khadijah binti Hj Akbar has been re-elected as the President, Hjh Ardinah binti OKMB Hj Othman as the Vice President and Abd Wafi Sia bin Abdullah Sia as the Secretary, by the association.
New officers have been given the posts of Treasurers, Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer and five other Executive members.
The event ended with the closing ceremony of the three-day conference, at Badi’ah Hotel, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Hjh Siti Salawati binti Hj Abu Hanifah, the assistant coordinator, summed up the paper presentations and workshops.
The conference’s theme was Oral Language for Literacy: Teaching Talk, aimed at examining the development of oral language competency as a major platform in which language and literacy skills develop.
The conference also aimed to provide and offer support to English Language teachers and educators by equipping them with adequate and deep professional knowledge about the many aspects of oral language that can be incorporated into their teaching instructions.
The event received positive feedback from the 150 participants who attended the conference including local and overseas presenters as well as Dr Sivabala Naidu, a representative from Melta (Malaysia English Language Teaching Association).
