AS A step to improve and enhance the development of futsal as one of the active sporting events in the Belait District, the Belait District Football Association with the collaboration of Brunei Methanol Company (BMC) organised a futsal championship in conjunction with the 68th birthday celebration for His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The first day of the event was graced by the attendance of Awg Daud bin Hj Jais, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of BMC, who officially launched the competition with the random draw to decide which teams would be playing in the opening match.
Sixteen teams are competing for the top prize of $1,000 and a trophy. The competition is spread over three days – September 12-14.
“One of the main reasons we joined the tournament is of course to test our capability and skills and hopefully win the first prize, Muhammad Hafiy bin Effendy, the captain of BVB which won one of the matches said in an interview with the Bulletin.
He added, “It is an honour to be able to play alongside other teams as it gives us the opportunity to learn from them and we will grow not just as individuals but also as a team once the tournament is over.”
According to a press statement issued by the organising committee, this is the first time that the Belait District Football Association has collaborated with BMC to organise a futsal competition.
